Dissent is not dying down even as the BJP’s central parliamentary board picked Hemang Joshi as the new Lok Sabha candidate from Vadodara after two-time MP Ranjan Bhatt opted out of the contest.
Messages circulating on party WhatsApp groups, according to people in the know, are indicative of the undercurrents. “Do we have to continue to work like labourers? We are the BJP high command, BJP’s labourers will ensure the victory of the candidate whom they choose. Keeping seniors aside… someone who has joined the party only three years back has been given a top position” – read one of the messages.
The messages circulated as Joshi began a door-to-door campaign on Saturday. Senior party leaders, however, deny that this would create any major impact.
“The Lok Sabha candidate has been changed due to unforeseen issues but the party is now united and everyone is working for the party’s victory with a record margin. These messages are baseless and will not affect the campaign”, said a leader.
